About
Us
Located in beautiful southwestern Ontario, Pootcorners is home to both
suri and huacaya alpacas as well as the Peter and Suelaine Poot family,
A Brother’s Bond Alpacas, To Be Alpacas, and Providence Pastures.
We have 24 acres of land, which is too much to let sit idle, but too
small for cash crops. After hearing about alpacas, we did our research
and, of course, fell in love with them. Our first two bred females were
purchased in 2004. Our wonderful alpaca adventure had begun.
We have six children who have been thrilled with these wonderful animals
right from the start and help out on the farm. The first alpaca we
purchased had her cria (the first for our farm) on our youngest son's,
Isaac's, birthday. Caasi (Isaac spelled backwards) and Isaac often
celebrate their special day together. Now 13
years old Isaac enjoys
helping with the alpacas, especially when they go to PR engagements.
Isaac recently purchased his own animal along with his brother Reuben,
and A Brother’s Bond Alpacas was born.
Our oldest son, Benjamin, helps out a lot with halter training some
adult alpacas who have not been previously trained. He works full time
but has flexible hours that allow him to travel to shows. In his “spare”
time he custom builds hay feeders specially designed to reduce waste. He
also is a regular part of morning chores.
Our oldest daughter, Joellen, is away at school, but enjoys spending
time with the alpacas and taking their pictures. When she is home she
drives the alpacas to their many PR engagements at schools, camps,
residential facilities, fairs and parades. She also edits and adds to
the website as needed
The twins, Moria and Taryn, also enjoy working with the animals. Moria
enjoys leading the alpacas at shows and parades. She occasionally spends
time working with the fibre and enjoys the end products of alpacas. She
and Suelaine are learning to weave with this wonderful fibre. Moria
purchase an alpaca of her own in 2007 as an investment for the future.
Her farm is registered as Providence Pastures.
Taryn is in the barn daily doing chores and training the alpacas. Taryn
would like to become a vet and loves her hands on experience with the
alpacas, including checking for worms and de-worming alpacas. She is a
respected handler at the alpaca shows and is often asked to lead animals
for other farms when they find themselves shorthanded. Taryn took 1st
place in the youth showmanship class at the 2009 Alpaca Ontario Show.
She purchased her first alpaca in 2008 and started To Be Alpacas.
The other regular "barn assistant" is our 16
year old son, Reuben. He is
out in the barn each morning with Taryn, Benjamin, and Suelaine taking
care of and working with the young crias as they learn to walk with
halter and lead. Reuben also helps with the animals in the show ring. He
took 2nd place in the youth showmanship class at the 2009
Alpaca Ontario Show. He and his brother, Isaac, have pooled their
resources and purchased their first alpaca in 2008, creating A Brother’s
Bond Alpacas.
